Duration: 2 days

Description

Spend two days trekking with a Karen family through their privately owned land. Hike hidden trails, swim in waterfalls, and share meals and stories around a campfire in a place few outsiders see.
Step into a world far beyond the well-trodden trekking routes of Chiang Mai. This rare two-day journey invites you to experience life in the hills through the eyes of the White Karen family who own and protect the land you'll walk on. Unlike typical tours, this is not a visit — it's an invitation.

Your hosts are not just guides, but stewards of the forest, fields, and waterfalls that surround their village. Every trail you walk, every waterfall you swim in, and every meal you share is part of their home. You'll be guided by members of one extended family: parents, siblings, and grandparents, each offering insights into the ecosystem, traditions, and rhythms of Karen life.

Begin your adventure with a morning pickup from your Chiang Mai hotel and a brief stop at a local market. From there, head into the Mae Win hills to begin your hike. The trail passes through dense bamboo forests, seasonal rice fields, and lush jungle untouched by tourist traffic.

On your first day, hike to two waterfalls where you can swim and rest. Lunch is cooked fresh and served in banana leaves. By evening, reach either a hilltop campsite with panoramic views or a village house, depending on the season and weather. Dinner is a shared experience: prepare and cook the meal together with your guide, learning about local ingredients and techniques.

As night falls, gather around the campfire to hear family stories, play music, or simply enjoy the silence of the hills under a sky full of stars. With no commercial lighting or crowds, the night feels ancient and alive.

The second day brings a longer trek through the family’s forest land. Visit three more waterfalls and walk paths that only the family uses. Along the way, your guide will point out medicinal plants, local herbs, and animal tracks. There's no rush here — the pace is respectful of nature and the group.

After a final lunch near the river, return to the village and transfer back to Chiang Mai by late afternoon. Leave not with souvenirs, but with the feeling of having been welcomed into a home — one with roots deep in the northern Thai hills.

For groups or families of five or more, we offer a dedicated private group option. This allows you to experience the trek with just your group and your local hosts, ensuring an even more personal and flexible experience. You’ll leave not with souvenirs, but with the feeling of having been welcomed into a home — one with roots deep in the northern Thai hills.
