Embark on a 10-day Rwenzori trekking adventure via the Central Circuit, summiting Margherita Peak. Hike through lush forests, alpine meadows, and glaciers while enjoying breathtaking views.
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Hotel
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, your guide will welcome you. After a brief overview of the itinerary, you will be transferred to your hotel. Take the evening to relax and unwind.
Day 2: Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains
After breakfast, begin your scenic drive to the Rwenzori Mountains. On the way, enjoy a lunch stop in Fort Portal. Upon arrival at the park, check in at your lodge, where you will spend the night. Dinner will be served, followed by a restful evening.
Day 3: Trek to Nyabitaba Hut (2650m)
Start your adventure with a briefing before heading to Nyabitaba Hut. The trail takes you through steep slopes, local homesteads, and lush forests. You will cross the Mubuku River and climb steadily to reach your destination. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyabitaba Hut.
Day 4: Trek to John Matte Hut (3350m)
After breakfast, you will start your day with a descent to Kurt Shafer Bridge. From here, the trail climbs into a bamboo zone. As you pass through moss-covered areas, you’ll see the unique vegetation of the region. You will eventually arrive at John Matte Hut. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Trek to Bujuku Hut (3900m)
Today’s trek takes you to Bujuku Hut, crossing the Bujuku River and the Bigo Swamp. On your way, you will be treated to stunning views of Lake Bujuku and the towering Mount Stanley. Once you reach Bujuku Hut, enjoy a well-deserved dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Climb to Elena Hut (4541m)
Starting early, the path leads you to the Scott-Elliot Pass. After a challenging climb, you’ll reach Elena Hut, located at the foot of the Stanley Glacier. Take in the stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Dinner and overnight stay at Elena Hut.
Day 7: Summit Mount Stanley (5109m) & Descend to Kitandara Hut (4027m)
For those wishing to summit, today is the big day! Begin your ascent early to reach Margherita Peak. This climb is challenging, requiring ropes and crampons. Those not summiting will head to Kitandara Hut for a more relaxed day. Afterward, enjoy a well-earned dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Trek to Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m)
Today, you will trek south from Mount Baker toward the Fresh Field Pass. As you descend, enjoy views of the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. The trail continues to Bujongolo rock shelter, a historic site. Dinner and overnight stay at Guy Yeoman Hut.
Day 9: Descend to Nyakalengija & Drive to Kampala
Your journey continues with a descent to the Nyakalengija trailhead. The 6-hour trek takes you past Lake Mahoma and the Nyabitaba Hut. Once at the base, you will head to your lodge for a refreshing lunch and some relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 10: Return to Entebbe
After breakfast, you will depart for Kampala, stopping for lunch in Mbarara. Arriving in Entebbe by the afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure.
