6-Days hiking Mount Elgon Trekking Tour

Mount Elgon is located on the border of Uganda and Kenya with the highest peak at 4321m and the hike to the summit rewards you with fantastic views above the plains of Eastern Uganda from Wagagai Peak, Mt.Elgon’s highest peak.
The trek will give a glimpse of the sunrise and sunset over the mountains and panoramic views of the majestic Sipi falls.

Summary

Day1: Transfer from Kampala to Mbale town
Day2: Hike from Bumosola to Mude camp (1770-3500M) for 6-10 hours
Day 3: Trek from Mude camp to Wagagai summit (3500-4321m) and back to Mude camp for 5-10 hrs.
Day4: Descend from Mude camp to Kajere/Tutum cave Camp for 6-12 hours
Day5: Kajere/Tutum to Kapkwai/ Sipi Falls for 4-8hrs
Day6: Transfer to Entebbe

Detailed Itinerary

Day1: Transfer from Kampala to Mbale town

Karibu Uganda “Welcome to Uganda”. Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be picked up by our company guide who will brief you about the Mount Elgon trekking tour.

You will then drive to Eastern Uganda through outstanding landscapes, beautiful cities, farmlands, local markets, and communities with stopovers for lunch and restrooms.
You check in at the lodge/hotel for an overnight and prepare for tomorrow's hike.

Day2: Bumosola to Mude Camp

After meeting at UWA headquarters in Budadiri at 1220m, you will take a short boda boda ride to the trail at Bumosola 1770m and then take strenuous hours of hiking the metal staircases/ladders that bring you up and into the Elgon National Park through the rain forests.

You will have the toughest hours of the hike through a steep incline, rough terrain, and often hot mid-morning temperatures to the top of the ladders where you will have a rest, eat snacks and take water.
You will then proceed on the invigorating hike on dirt trails through the forest sightseeing mammals elephants, buffaloes, Oribi, Defassa’s waterbuck, duiker, squirrels, spotted hyenas, primates such as the white colobus monkey and the blue monkey to Ssasa River Camp where you will have a lunch break. After the lunch break, you walk into the Bamboo forests and eventually break through the forest into the alpine heather, shrub, and giant lobelia to Mude camp for the overnight stay.

Day3: Trek from Mude camp to Wagagai summit (35

Summit day! Early in the morning, you will start a captivating hike to the summit of 4000m feeling the effects of the altitude.
On top of the Peak Wagagai, you will have panoramic views of the sunrise over the mountains, astonishing views of the Simu Valley and Jackson’s pool, colorful flowers, alpine lichen, and all the various lobelia.
Upon arrival at the top summit, you will have the option to descend or ascend a side summit on Jackson’s peak 4160m

You will then descend back to the camp for dinner and early night.

Day4: Descend from Mude camp to Kajere or Tutum cave camp

Early in the morning after having your breakfast, you descend through the beauty, wonder, and picturesque day of the mountain. The trail takes you to Simu Valley following the rocky footpaths through old smugglers caves as you ascend into the caldera.

If nature allows, you get incredible views of the sunrise as you climb up the side of the caldera, a truly fascinating part of the natural world.

Day5: Kajere/Tutum to Kapkwai/ Sipi Falls.

You will then drop down the mountain through numerous meandering streams and small rivers, crossing magnificent waterfalls with ecstatic views of the abundance of wildflowers, fungi, and a variety of primates like Monkeys.

You will descend back into the rainforest sightseeing wildlife species like monkeys, baboons, three-horned chameleons, and colorful birds with melody sounds. And eventually to the forest exploration center at Kapkwai where you will proceed to Sipi Falls with stunning falls that give vistas of the majestic landscapes and local communities.

Day6: Transfer to Entebbe

Depending on the time of your flight; you will drive back to Kampala/Entebbe through marveling landscapes, local communities, towns, and cities.
