ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale, Crater Lakes & Bigodi Wetland
Your journey begins with pick-up from either Kampala or Entebbe by your driver-guide. Travel northwest through Uganda’s countryside, enjoying views of rolling hills, roadside markets, tea plantations, and local homesteads as you make your way to Fort Portal.
Upon arrival, proceed to the scenic Ndali-Kasenda Crater Lakes region. Here, you will explore a series of volcanic crater lakes set against a backdrop of lush green hills. Enjoy guided walks to viewpoints that offer sweeping panoramas of the landscape, and learn about the geological history and cultural significance of the area. This is also a great opportunity for photography and quiet moments in nature.
In the afternoon, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided swamp walk. The sanctuary is a haven for primates such as colobus monkeys and baboons, alongside a variety of bird species and butterflies. The walk is both educational and immersive, with insights into local conservation efforts supported by the surrounding community.
After the day’s exploration, transfer to Tooro Fairway Hotel for check-in. Relax in the evening, enjoy dinner, and unwind in preparation for the next day’s adventure.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Semuliki Hot Springs
After pick-up from the hotel, transfer to Kibale National Park, renowned for having one of the highest concentrations of primates in Africa. Following a briefing from park rangers, embark on a guided trek through the tropical rainforest in search of chimpanzees. Once located, spend time observing their behaviour in their natural environment, along with other primates and forest wildlife, while learning about their ecology and conservation.
After the trekking experience, continue to Semuliki National Park, a unique lowland rainforest known for its biodiversity and hot springs. Visit the famous Sempaya Hot Springs, where you will walk through the forest to both the male and female springs. Witness boiling water bubbling to the surface and steaming vents, a striking natural phenomenon surrounded by dense vegetation.
