Description

Join a guided tour of Belfast and visit the famous murals from both sides of the conflict. You will see many telling political murals, and share in stories from those who lived through the troubles.
For more than 30 years, "The Troubles" have had a powerful impact on the city and its residents. Very few people were unaffected by the violence, and everyone has a tale to tell. Investigate the real stories beyond the history books with first-hand accounts from those intimately involved.

The tour starts at Radio Fáilte, where your local guide will give you a brief explanation of the Gaelic. Afterwards, explore the area surrounding the Falls Road, known as a 'Gaeltacht' area, where the Irish language is spoken by some of the locals and is a sign of the Irish culture that wishes to preserve. See visible signs of the community's desire to be part of an Irish Republic. Visit the International Wall, Bobby Sand Mural Gardens, and Bombay Street, where the trouble exploded on to the streets of Northern Ireland in 1969.

Next, pass through the electronically controlled gates dividing the two communities known locally as Checkpoint Charlie and emerge on the Shankill Road side of the wall where you will witness the determination of the locals who wish to remain part of the United Kingdom. You will have the opportunity to sign the Peace Wall, leaving your thoughts alongside those of Bill Clinton and The Dalai Lama.

On this side of the wall, you'll visit several murals commemorating the UVF, the Garden of Remembrance, and locations of bombings where many lives were lost. With an in-depth knowledge of both communities, your guide will share with you the turmoil that the locals suffered during this time and the steps towards Peace in Northern Ireland and the hopes and dreams for the local communities for the future.
