Our spectacular lantern trail returns for the first time since 2019 – dive into an underwater world with dazzling jellyfish, towering sea turtles and more in a luminous coastal wonderland!
Running for 60 enchanting nights from 14 November 2025 to 22 February 2026, the Giant Lanterns event offers a truly immersive experience for all ages. This family-friendly spectacle features dazzling underwater-themed lanterns, from charming penguins to mythical sea creatures of legend, creating a luminous coastal wonderland. Plus, there are special adult-only and quiet night sessions for those looking for a more tranquil experience.
As a wildlife conservation charity, Edinburgh Zoo’s Giant Lanterns provide a fun and memorable way to engage visitors with wildlife while supporting vital conservation efforts. Each light-filled step through the trail helps raise awareness about the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitats, from coral reefs to seabirds and beyond. Your visit contributes directly to the zoo's ongoing conservation work in Scotland and globally, making this a night out that’s as meaningful as it is magical.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The route has been designed to accommodate wheelchairs and buggies. We offer mobility scooters, wheelchairs, and pushchairs for hire on a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival. You are also welcome to bring your own mobility scooter.
Please note that Edinburgh Zoo is located on a hill, and there will be no accessibility vehicle available during these events, as the route includes smaller pathways that are not accessible by vehicles.
For a quieter experience, we recommend booking tickets for one of our designated quiet nights.

NOT INCLUDED
- As the event takes place in the evening, most of our animals will be tucked up in their beds. We design the event route specifically around areas where animals will be least disturbed and as such it is unlikely you will see any.
- Carparking is not included, and will be charged at £2 per vehicle. Please be aware that during busy nights, the car park might get busy before you arrive.
- Food and drink is not included in ticket purchase. A variety of food and drink offers will be available for purchase throughout the event, including hot and cold food options, drinks and snacks.
When should I book?
To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.
Cancellations
This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
