Description

Hike through the Nevis Gorge to Steall Falls on a guided walk from Fort William. Enjoy the views of Glen Nevis and cross a wire rope bridge over the river for an adventurous experience.
Set off on a scenic 3-hour hike through Glen Nevis, led by your knowledgeable local guide, Trev. This 9km (5.5 mile) route begins at Lower Falls Car Park and takes you on a journey through lush forests, alongside the winding Water of Nevis. The path meanders through the dramatic Nevis Gorge, where rocky terrain and mossy trees create a magical atmosphere.

Your guide will lead you past Polldubh Falls and a series of smaller cascades and pools, sharing stories about the area’s history and natural wonders. After crossing Paddy’s Bridge, the trail becomes steeper and more rugged as you enter the gorge. At the end of the gorge, the landscape opens up to reveal the breathtaking Steall Falls, cascading 105 meters down the rock face. Known in Gaelic as An Steall Bàn, this iconic spot has featured in two Harry Potter films.

Take in the views from several vantage points and, for the adventurous, try crossing the famous wire rope bridge over the river. Your guide is always happy to help with photos and offer support on trickier sections of the path. If the weather is good, you’re welcome to bring a picnic—blankets can be provided. The return walk follows the same route, offering fresh perspectives on the landscape.

This hike is suitable for families with children aged 13 and up who are comfortable with the distance and terrain. Your guide will contact you before the hike to confirm clothing, equipment, and answer any questions, ensuring you’re prepared for a memorable Highland adventure.
