Duration: 02:30 hours

Description

This tide pool is my secret. The hike includes a scenic jungle trail and lava rock coastal trail. We'll swim and relax in the pool before heading back.
This experience is the epitome of "off the beaten path". It takes 20-30 minutes. If you want a shorter hike, see "Private Hike To Secret Jungle Tide Pool, Short Distance".
- There's some elevation gain on the hike.
- The pool is like an infinity pool overlooking the cliffs. You'll feel close to the wild ocean while being protected.
- The water is mineralized by the lava rock.
- You'll spend hours exploring the ecosystem, e.g., crabs, fish, shells, other exotic creatures. You can also explore the views from the lava rock border.
- The conditions are unusually calm, so the pool is ideal for all ages. There's a deep (4-7 ft.) and shallow (1-4 ft.) area.

The lava rocks on the coastal trail are often unstable, uneven, or slippery. Some minor scrambling will be required. If you're in shape, you'll succeed. If you're out of shape, you can still do the hike, although you may struggle a bit.

The temperature of the tide pool water is the same as the temperature it is outside.

  • See amazing views of the coast.
  • Swim and snorkel in crystal clear waters.
  • Watch waves crash against cliffs, sending water into the air upwards of 50 ft.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Park on Papio St. on the side of the road in front of Kahakai Park. You'll need to turn left onto Papio St. 50 feet before the GPS endpoint. I'll be in a black Nissan Xterra. There's a porta-potty there but nowhere else on the hike. After we meet up, you’ll follow me by car for 2 miles to get to the trailhead.
