Hello, I'm Abdiel.
I've been leading walking tours for over 10 years, first in Cuba and now in Los Angeles. I speak Spanish, English, French, and Italian. My tours aren't the typical scripted ones. I enjoy the city with you as I show you each place and explain it to you, always sharing a fascinating story about it.
I'm not a historian; I'm a passionate guide who leads tours exactly the way I would like to be guided. Traveling and visiting places is something I do for pleasure. That's why, in addition to talking about the buildings and history, we also discuss life, America's incredibly diverse culture, and the perspectives of both an immigrant and a local.
This tour is 100% personal: I always lead it myself; it's not a large company with different guides. It's my way of sharing the city that I now call home.
Meet at 200 S. Hill Ave., in front of Hotel Kawada (within walking distance of the metro and easily accessible).
1. Bradbury Building (1893)
We enter this hidden gem. Its wrought-iron interior courtyard bathed in natural light will leave you speechless. It was a filming location for the movie Blade Runner.
2. City Hall (1928)
If it's a weekday, we head up to the observation deck on the 27th floor. From there, you'll have a 360-degree view: downtown, the mountains, and even the Hollywood Sign. On weekends, we admire its imposing Art Deco design from the outside. It's Superman's Daily Planet!
3. Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels
A postmodern building that sparks debate. We will go inside to see the majestic building.
4. Music Center and Department of Water and Power (DWP)
We'll cross to Music Center Plaza (where the Oscars were held from 1969 to 1987). In front of it is the Art Deco DWP building. Here, we'll talk about water in L.A., the film Chinatown, and how this building symbolizes the city's power.
5. Walt Disney Concert Hall
Frank Gehry's masterpiece. We'll walk around its steel curves and learn about the secrets of its construction. A must-see for architecture lovers.
6. The Broad
We stop in front of its iconic “beehive” façade and go inside for a quick look at the main works.
7. Grand Avenue – Financial District
We'll walk south along Grand Avenue. I will show you the oldest and most modern skyscrapers and tell you how downtown went from an empty office center to a vibrant neighborhood.
8. Angels Flight Funicular
We'll ride down on the famous “shortest funicular in the world” (ticket included). A ride of just one minute with unique views of the hill. Setting for the famous movie “La La Land.”
9. Grand Central Market (1917)
We arrive at the culinary heart of L.A. Free time to enjoy a coffee, a taco, or simply soak up the atmosphere.
10. Broadway – Apple Tower Theater and Jewelry District
We'll finish by walking along Broadway, LA's former “Great White Way.” We'll visit the Apple Tower Theater, a 1927 movie theater restored by Apple, and see the Eastern Airlines Building with its turquoise clock. The tour ends here, in the heart of the Jewelry District.
