Category:
Country: United States
Duration:
06:00 hours
Description
Hike below the South Rim on the South Kaibab Trail with a local guide. Take in sweeping ridgeline views, learn the canyon's geology and history, and enjoy lunch in the canyon.
Meet your guide at the bicycles at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center (7:00 AM from April through September, 8:00 AM from October through March) for a quick orientation and gear check. Ride the free park shuttle together to the South Kaibab Trailhead, then start down one of the most spectacular trails in the canyon. The South Kaibab follows an open ridgeline, so the views of the inner canyon begin almost immediately. Depending on the group's pace and the weather, hike to viewpoints such as Ooh Aah Point or Cedar Ridge while your guide shares the geology, plant life, and human history of the Grand Canyon. Enjoy lunch with a view below the rim, then climb back to the trailhead at a comfortable pace and ride the shuttle back to the Visitor Center. There is no water on the South Kaibab Trail, so bring 2 to 3 liters per person. Trekking poles, daypacks, and microspikes are provided when needed. Open to all ages.
