Vietnamese Identity in unique Xam experiences
Xam singing is an art form that was once popular on the streets, associated with the livelihood of blind artisans, with a unique and creative performance form. This art has the ability to communicate and reflect a variety of social contexts as well as human emotions. During the first half of the twentieth century, there was the East-West cultural encounter, marking a powerful changing period in Vietnamese history. Xam in this period created a Vietnamese unique highlight on the background of a colorful cultural interference.
Xam Singing Show: Tonkon Stories - Vietnamse unique impression is a program conducted by Vietnam Intangible Cultural Heritage Promotion Center (VICH), with the desire to retell the Xam’s stories from the beginning of the twentieth century. Being in that context as an indispensable spiritual dish in crowded streets, Xam singing not only caught up with the trend, honestly reflecting the changes of society at that time, but also continued spread of traditional songs.
