Begin your tour at the Meridian Gate, the main entrance to the Forbidden City. Admire the 10-meter-high walls and the 52-meter-wide moat that surround the palace complex. Notice the unique corner towers that offer a wonderful view of the palace and the city outside.
Walk through the Outer Court, centered around the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Central Harmony, and the Hall of Preserving Harmony. These are the largest and most magnificent buildings in the Forbidden City, where the emperor held grand ceremonies and conducted state affairs.
Continue to the Inner Court, the living area of the emperor and his family. See the Palace of Heavenly Purity, the Hall of Union, and the Palace of Earthly Tranquility, surrounded by the Six Palaces of the East and West and the Imperial Garden.
Admire the red walls and yellow glazed-tile roofs, typical of traditional Chinese palatial architecture. The roofs shine with golden light under the sunlight, and the red walls are solemn and grand. The beams and pillars are painted with colorful patterns, such as dragons, auspicious clouds, and flowers. Each gate is guarded by stone lions, symbolizing power and protection.
