Discover the stunning landscapes and rich spiritual heritage of northern Ethiopia on this immersive 2-day journey. This tour offers a unique combination of hiking, history, and cultural exploration in one of Ethiopia’s most remarkable regions.

Day 1: Mekelle – Hawzen – Abune Yemata Guh – St. George Church
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Mekelle to Hawzen, which takes approximately 3 hours. Along the way, enjoy views of rural villages, dramatic rock formations, and the rugged beauty of Tigray’s landscape. Upon arrival, begin your hike to the famous Abune Yemata Guh church, one of the most iconic and adventurous sites in Ethiopia. Perched high on a cliff, the climb involves some light scrambling, but rewards you with breathtaking views and well-preserved ancient wall paintings.

In the afternoon, visit St. George (Debre Tsion) rock church near Hawzen. This beautiful site, carved into the rock, offers impressive architecture and peaceful surroundings with stunning scenery. After a full day of exploration, spend the night in Hawzen town.

Day 2: Gheralta Mountains – Mariam Korkor – Daniel Korkor – Abraha We Atsibha – Mekelle
After breakfast, hike حوالي 1.5 hours to the top of the Gheralta Mountains to visit the remarkable Mariam Korkor and Daniel Korkor churches. These historic churches are known for their size, ancient artwork, and spectacular panoramic views.
After exploring, descend and drive back to Mekelle. On the way, stop at Abraha We Atsibha, one of the oldest and most important rock-hewn churches in Ethiopia, dating back to the 4th century. Finally, upon arrival in Mekelle, you will be dropped off at your hotel or transferred to Mekelle Airport.
