Description

Explore Addis Ababa on a guided tour. Visit the National Museum, Red Terror Martyrs' Memorial Museum, St. George's Cathedral, and Mercato, Africa's largest open-air market.
Begin your exploration of Addis Ababa, a city rich in history and culture, with a visit to Entoto Park. This multi-purpose park offers a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities, including a spa, tented lodging, a horse stable, a library, restaurants, and coffee shops. Enjoy the fountains, walkways, and bicycle and scooter lanes as you take in the natural beauty of the area.

Next, head to the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to many of the country’s most precious artistic treasures. Discover one of the world’s most famous archeological discoveries, ‘Lucy’, which challenged humanity’s long-standing convictions about the theory of evolution.

Continue to the Red Terror Martyrs' Memorial Museum, established as a memorial to the victims of Red Terror. Reflect on and learn about an important and terrifying piece of Ethiopia's history, making it one of the most important Addis Ababa tourist attractions.

Visit St. George's Cathedral, known for its distinctive and gorgeously conceived octagonal form. Take a guided tour and spend some time at the onsite museum to learn more about this place of worship.

Then, make your way to Mount Entoto, the highest peak of the Entoto mountains. Overlooking the city of Addis Ababa and standing at a height of 3200 feet above sea level, this majestic mountain is the ideal choice for an excursion, hiking, or outing.

Explore the Addis Mercato, the largest open-air marketplace in Africa, employing upwards of 13,000 people. Although popular for its agricultural produce, there is certainly no dearth of other things to look out for. This place is a must-visit for shopping enthusiasts.

Next, visit Unity Park, located in the Grand Palace, established in 1887. The palace served as the living and working space of seven Ethiopian leaders. The palace covers an area of 40 hectares and contains a myriad of historical buildings and plants that date back to the time of Emperor Menelik II.

Experience a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, one of the most celebrated customs in Ethiopia. Typically, women make and serve the coffee and consider it an honor. A hot finjal of coffee poured over from the jebena is such a heavenly feeling.

Finally, visit Meskel Square, a place of public gathering, mostly for festivals and demonstrations. The name of the place itself comes from the Meskel Festival, which involves overnight celebrations. The square was recently renovated and has been functional from June 2021.
