Begin your journey in Addis Ababa with a traditional coffee ceremony, learning how green beans are roasted, ground, and brewed in a jebena. Continue to Yirgalem and Sidama, where you’ll visit coffee farms, meet local farmers, and learn how coffee seedlings are raised in nurseries and planted in coffee gardens. Depending on the season, participate in coffee harvesting, picking ripe cherries alongside farmers and learning about traditional farming practices, shade management, and coffee production.

Next, head to Yirgacheffe, one of Ethiopia’s most famous specialty coffee origins. Explore coffee farms and, where available, visit a washing or processing station to learn how cherries are sorted, processed, dried, and prepared for the market. Enjoy a coffee tasting and discover the distinctive flavors and aromas of Ethiopian coffee while understanding how altitude, variety, and processing influence the final cup.

Travel west to Bonga in the Kaffa region, where you’ll experience Ethiopia’s forest coffee landscape. Take guided walks to learn about coffee growing within natural forest ecosystems and the relationship between coffee, biodiversity, and conservation. Learn about wild and semi-forest coffee, traditional forest management, and the importance of protecting coffee genetic diversity.
