Description
Eat your way through Old Québec, North America's only walled city, on guided walking food tour: 8+ tastings from Lion's Mane and duck carpaccio to pea soup, maple taffy and a poutine finish !
Old Québec is the only walled city north of Mexico, and its cobblestone streets hold four centuries of French, British and Québécois history. On this guided walking food tour you will eat your way through Vieux-Québec while a local guide unpacks the stories behind every corner, from the towering Château Frontenac to a former prison, a restored monastery, and what may be the smallest house in North America, tucked beside the historic Ursuline Convent.
Over roughly three hours and five stops you will enjoy 8+ tastings, more than enough to stand in for lunch, so come hungry. You open with the region's wild side: an earthy Lion's Mane mushroom starter and a delicate duck breast carpaccio that nods to the city's French roots. Then come the Québécois classics, a silky Quebec-style pea soup and a traditional pâté chinois, followed by maple taffy pulled fresh the way it is at the cabane à sucre.
A standout plate lands mid-tour: hand-made gnocchi in Île-aux-Grues cheddar with cream, shallot, white wine and a black garlic crumble, or, on Sundays and Mondays, an oat risotto crowned with a small rock shrimp salad.
Save room, because the sweet stretch brings Quebec-style maple fudge and what many call the best croissant in the city, before the tour closes the only way it should, with poutine, the dish that defines this province like no other.
Between bites your guide weaves in the quiet anecdotes that make this neighbourhood tick, walking you past Dufferin Terrace above the St. Lawrence River and the city's famous astronomical clock. Come hungry, leave happy !
