Description
Reach the summit of Isabel de Torres by 4x4 Safari truck! Explore hidden mountain trails, then dive into the city's history, rum tasting, and colorful streets. A unique group adventure!
Forget the traditional cable car and join Carlos Tours for the most authentic "backcountry" expedition in Puerto Plata. Our Safari Mountain & City Odyssey is a unique experience designed for groups (minimum 4 people) who want to experience the Dominican Republic from the inside out. We don't just show you the sights; we take you on a rugged journey through the "backdoor" of Mount Isabel de Torres.
The expedition starts as you board our specialized Safari Trucks or Buses. We bypass the crowded cable car station and head into the lush trails that lead up the mountain's rear side. This overland ascent offers a true 4x4 adventure feel, passing through tropical vegetation and local mountain communities. Once at the summit, 800 meters above sea level, you’ll explore the botanical gardens and stand beneath the monumental Christ the Redeemer statue, with the entire Atlantic coastline stretched out before you.
After conquering the mountain, we descend to the historic heart of the "Bride of the Atlantic." Our City Tour is a sensory immersion into Dominican heritage. We visit the 16th-century San Felipe Fortress, where you’ll walk the ancient walls that once defended the city from pirates. We then take a stroll through the iconic Victorian-style streets, visiting the world-famous Umbrella Street and the artistic Pink Street (Paseo de Doña Blanca).
To satisfy your senses, we include a guided tasting at the Macorix House of Rum and a visit to an organic chocolate factory to learn about our "Bean-to-Bar" process. With Carlos Tours, you get a professional local guide, a thrilling Safari ride, and a deep cultural connection. This tour is perfectly timed for cruise passengers from Amber Cove and Taino Bay, ensuring you experience the best of our nature and history with a guaranteed punctual return.

INFORMATION IMPORTANTE
This expedition requires a minimum of 4 participants to operate. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, travelers will receive a full refund, and optional rescheduling may be offered. This unique tour reaches the summit of Mount Isabel de Torres via a specialized Safari Truck; it does not include the cable car (teleférico), offering a much more adventurous and authentic 'backdoor' route. The mountain peak can be significantly cooler and windier than the city, so we strongly recommend bringing a light jacket. Please notify us of any food allergies prior to the chocolate and rum tasting sessions. For cruise passengers, we guarantee a punctual return to your port by monitoring ship schedules in real-time.
