Description

Explore Kamishikimi Shrine, the stunning Takachiho Gorge with Manai Waterfall, and Amano Iwato. 10-hour Fukuoka day tour with 4-language guide. Optional boat ride available.
Meet at 8:30 AM at Lawson Oriental Hotel Fukuoka (Hakata Station Chikushiguchi Exit). Please arrive 10 minutes early.

Step into a realm of mystery at Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, where a path of moss-covered stone steps rises through an ancient forest, flanked by roughly 100 weathered stone lanterns. Sunlight filters through the canopy in soft, shifting rays, and the air feels cool and still. Pause before Tooriwa Rock—legend says that if you can pass a small stone through the hole in this boulder, good fortune will follow. For 40 minutes, wander freely and let the quiet spirituality of the forest settle over you. We recommend comfortable, non-slip shoes, as the stones can be slippery.

Marvel at the dramatic beauty of Takachiho Gorge, a national scenic spot born from ancient volcanic fire. Here, lava from Mount Aso once rushed down the Gokase River and cooled into soaring columnar cliffs. Today, emerald-green water winds through the gorge, and the 17-meter Manai Waterfall—one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls—spills gracefully into the river below. From different vantage points, admire the iconic Three Bridges spanning the gorge. With 90 minutes of free time, stroll the 1 km trail at your own pace, breathe in the cool mist, and capture unforgettable photographs. An optional boat ride (approximately 30 minutes, included in the boat option) offers a closer, more intimate view of the waterfall and cliff walls from the water. The boat ride is subject to availability. Some sections of the trail have steps, so please pace yourself.

Feel the sacred stillness of Amano Iwato Shrine, the legendary site where the sun goddess Amaterasu once hid, plunging the world into darkness. At the Nishihongu (West Main Shrine), gaze across the Iwato River toward the mythical cave from a distant worship point. Then, follow a forest path for about 10 minutes to Amanoyasukawara, a riverbank where thousands of stacked wish stones have been piled by visitors—each one a silent prayer. The murmur of the river and the quiet weight of mythology create a deeply moving atmosphere. During your 60-minute self-guided visit, explore both the shrine and the riverbank. The forest path can be damp and rocky, so please watch your step and wear appropriate footwear.

Finally, return to Lawson Oriental Hotel Fukuoka (Hakata Station Chikushiguchi Exit) around 18:30.
