Description
The Tajogaite Volcano Essential Route: This short itinerary allows you to get close to the cone of the Tajogaite Volcano along a 5-kilometer (3-mile) trail with no significant elevation gain.
This tour will allow you to learn about the Tajogaite Volcano, La Palma’s youngest volcano, and to understand its impact on the landscape and the community of the Aridane Valley.
After gathering at the meeting point, we will travel in our vehicle and authorized taxis to Llano del Jable (elevation 3,937 feet / 1,200 meters). After a roughly 15-minute drive, we will begin our 5-kilometer circular hike, walking among ash and lapilli as we observe how nature is beginning to recover from the eruption.
During the hike, we will discover the astonishing regenerative capacity of the Canary Island pine, a unique species capable of regrowing even after fires.
The trail will take us to a viewpoint located approximately 200 meters from the Tajogaite crater, where we will enjoy breathtaking views of the new volcano and the lava flows that transformed the landscape of the Aridane Valley.
We will share stories, interesting facts, and explanations about the eruption process and its consequences for the island.
This is a unique experience to learn about La Palma’s new volcano and understand how nature and life continue to thrive in a spectacular volcanic landscape.
The route is designed to be accessible to people with a moderate level of physical fitness, allowing them to enjoy this experience without having to be expert hikers.
