Day 1: Addis Ababa – Drive to Bale Mountains & Forest Walk in Dinsho

Depart from Addis Ababa and begin your scenic journey toward the Bale Mountains. As you ascend into the highlands, enjoy changing landscapes and fresh mountain air. Upon arrival at Dinsho, meet your local park guide and check in to your lodge.

After settling in, take an easy introductory walk around the Dinsho forest area. This quiet woodland is home to mountain nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, and warthogs, which you may spot grazing near the trails. Explore peaceful glades and enjoy the cool atmosphere of the juniper forest. In the evening, relax at your lodge and prepare for the days ahead.

Day 2: Gaysay Grasslands – Konteh Ridge – Descend into Harenna Forest

After breakfast, head to the Gaysay Grasslands, one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the park. Look for grazing antelopes, soaring raptors, and endemic bird species as you cross the open plains.

Continue your journey toward the lesser-visited Konteh Ridge. Take a guided trek along the highland slopes, enjoying sweeping views of valleys, cliffs, and rolling meadows. This route offers a peaceful escape far from the usual paths.

In the afternoon, descend through the escarpments into the lush Harenna Forest. The air becomes cooler and denser as you enter the southern side of the park—a world of towering trees, bamboo groves, and unique rainforest wildlife. Check in at your lodge and enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by nature.

Day 3: Bamboo Forest – Wild Coffee Villages – Rira Waterfall

Enjoy breakfast in the misty forest, then begin your exploration of one of the region’s hidden treasures: the bamboo forest zone. Walk through shaded paths, listening for the calls of colobus monkeys and spotting colorful forest birds above.

Continue to a local village known for its traditional wild coffee cultivation. Learn how farmers harvest and roast Arabica coffee straight from the forest, and enjoy a fresh cup prepared the traditional way.

Later, take a short hike to the beautiful Rira Waterfall, nestled deep inside the wooded landscape. The sound of falling water and the thick green surroundings offer the perfect moment of relaxation. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 4: Sanetti Plateau – Ethiopian Wolf Viewing – Return to Addis Ababa

After an early breakfast, drive up to the Afro-alpine Sanetti Plateau, one of Africa’s highest and most dramatic landscapes. Cross wide plains covered with giant lobelias and volcanic formations while enjoying the cool mountain atmosphere.

This area provides one of the best opportunities to observe the endangered Ethiopian wolf in its natural habitat. Spend time exploring the plateau and visiting viewpoints near Tulu Dimtu, the second-highest peak in Ethiopia.

In the afternoon, begin your return drive to Addis Ababa, arriving in the evening. This concludes your 4-day Bale Mountains adventure filled with wildlife, nature, and cultural encounters.
