03:00 AM – Departure from Mekelle
Early morning pickup from your hotel or airport in a comfortable 4WD vehicle. Drive north through the Afar lowlands with short rest stops for refreshments.
08:00 AM – Arrival at Berhale
Brief stop in Berhale town. Enjoy a simple local breakfast, arrange permits, and meet your mandatory local Afar guide.
09:00 AM – Drive to Dallol Area
Continue through vast salt flats and traditional Afar salt-mining zones.
10:30 AM – Explore Dallol Geothermal Area & Danakil Depression
Guided walking tour of the surreal landscape:
Vibrant sulphur lakes and colorful mineral formations (yellow, green, orange, red)
Acidic hot springs, bubbling pools, and salt pillars
Potash fields shaped by volcanic and hydrothermal activity

Drive back across the salt desert with short photo stops. Ascend dramatically from below sea level to the Tigray highlands (over 2,000 m), enjoying the scenic transition to greener mountains influenced by Red Sea moisture.
04:30 PM – Short rest stop in Berhale
06:00–07:00 PM – Arrival back in Mekelle
