Description
My tours focus on how Helsinki developed over the centuries. We explore how wars, trade, and architecture have left their marks on the city.
Discover Helsinki’s story step by step as we walk through the city’s most important historical and cultural landmarks.
We begin at Senate Square, the birthplace of Helsinki, where you’ll learn how the city was founded and how its neoclassical architecture shaped its identity.
— We visit the National Library of Finland, a true architectural gem.
— Optional visit to Helsinki Cathedral (entrance fee €8, children under 18 are free).
— Bank of Finland and House of Estates, exploring Finland’s political and economic past and the impressive buildings that represent it.
— We stop at the elegant Knight’s House (Ritaritalo).
— Next, we admire the striking Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral from the outside. Optional visit (fee €5, children under 18 are free).
— We continue to Tove Jansson Park, where we talk about urban development and the lesser-known “murky” stories behind Helsinki’s growth.
— At Market Square (Kauppatori), you’ll experience the city’s lively atmosphere and learn how trade shaped everyday life over the centuries.
— We then stroll through Esplanade Park, Helsinki’s famous boulevard filled with statues, fountains, and cultural venues, diving deep into the history of Finland.
— The walk leads us to Old Church Park, where tragic historical events took place, and to the Lönnrot Monument.
— Along Aleksanterinkatu, the city’s historic trading street, we explore stories of commerce and architecture.
— Reaching Railway Square, you will see the National Theatre and Ateneum Art Museum, two key landmarks in Finland’s cultural landscape.
— We finish at the breathtaking Oodi Library and National Square, a symbol of modern Helsinki. Here, you’ll discover innovative design, the city’s future-oriented mindset, and receive personal tips on what to explore next.
Throughout the tour, I also show hidden corners and local insights that reveal the true soul of Helsinki.
