Description
Discover the Lambert Collection, one of the finest collections of contemporary art in France, housed in two 18th-century mansions in the heart of Avignon, a stone's throw from the Palace of the Popes
In the heart of Avignon's historic center, a few steps from the Palace of the Popes, the Lambert Collection opens the doors to one of the most important collections of contemporary art in France. Housed in two magnificent 18th-century mansions — the Hôtel de Caumont and the Hôtel de Montfaucon — the collection brings together works gathered since the 1960s by gallery owner Yvon Lambert, before being donated to the French State.
Your ticket gives you access, for the chosen day, to all the current temporary exhibitions. You will discover major works of Minimal Art, Land Art, Conceptual Art, as well as contemporary painting, photography, and video. The itinerary creates a dialogue between big names such as Sol LeWitt, Cy Twombly, Anselm Kiefer, Niele Toroni, Nan Goldin, and Douglas Gordon, and gives pride of place to current creations through a program that is renewed several times a year.
The tour is unguided, at your own pace — allow about two hours to go through all the rooms. The spaces, bathed in natural light, offer a striking contrast between the building's classical architecture and the boldness of the works on display.
During the Festival d'Avignon (July), the Collection Lambert is open every day and offers a special program in harmony with contemporary stage creation — an ideal time to combine visual arts and performing arts in the heart of the papal city.
