Cave Tabareau is one of Lyon's most authentic and beloved wine institutions, and the perfect setting for this hands-on local wine and cheese pairing workshop.
Without leaving the cave, you take a full journey through Lyon's gastronomy and terroir. Through each glass and each cheese, you discover the regions, landscapes and food culture that make Lyon the gastronomic capital of France. This is not a passive tasting: it is an interactive workshop where you actively learn to taste, identify and pair wines with local artisan cheeses.
Your Lyon-born sommelier guides you through different wines from the terroirs surrounding Lyon: Beaujolais, Northern Rhône (Syrah and Viognier) and Bugey. Each wine is tasted alongside a carefully chosen artisan cheese, selected specifically to complement its flavours and aromatic profile. Along the way, your sommelier explains the grape varieties, estates, soils and microclimates behind each wine, and introduces the principles of food and wine pairing in an accessible and jargon-free way.
The workshop takes place standing up for a more dynamic and convivial experience, and moves outside when the weather allows, making the most of the authentic Lyon atmosphere.
Each participant receives a personalised food and wine pairing card to take home. All tasting glasses and equipment are provided.
