Description
Discover the UNESCO-listed ancient capital of Mtskheta, delve into 20th-century Soviet history at the Stalin Museum in Gori, and explore the ancient, rock-hewn cave city of Uplistsikhe.
Begin your unforgettable journey with a scenic and comfortable departure from Tbilisi, heading toward the historical heart of Georgia. This tour offers a fascinating contrast of eras, taking you from ancient kingdoms to Soviet history in a single day.
Mtskheta's Spiritual Heritage: Your first stop is Mtskheta, the ancient capital and religious center of Georgia. You will visit the 6th-century Jvari Monastery, perched on a hilltop offering breathtaking, panoramic views of the merging Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. From there, head down to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, an 11th-century architectural masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous as the resting place of Georgian kings and the legendary burial site of Christ’s mantle.
The Soviet Era in Gori: Continue your journey to Gori, the hometown of Joseph Stalin. At the Stalin Museum, you will explore a complex dedicated to his life. Step inside the small wooden house where he was born, view a vast collection of Soviet-era artifacts, and walk through his personal, heavily armored train carriage.
The Ancient Caves of Uplistsikhe: The final chapter of your tour takes you further back in time to Uplistsikhe, an awe-inspiring cave town carved entirely out of rock. Dating back to the Early Iron Age, this complex was a major stop on the historic Silk Road. Wander through its rocky streets, admire the unique blend of pagan and Christian architecture, and explore the ancient theater and secret tunnels.
After a day filled with incredible history and stunning landscapes, you will enjoy a relaxing drive back to Tbilisi.
