Description
Experience Wicklow on a Dún Laoghaire shore tour with extended time in Glendalough, a scenic route through Sally Gap, quieter viewpoints, the iconic Guinness Lake, and a Glendalough Whiskey toast.
Arrive in Dún Laoghaire Port and begin your day on a specially designed shore-excursion version of our full-day Wild Wicklow experience, created for cruise guests who want a comfortable, well-paced journey deep into Wicklow’s scenic mountains. Travelling in a smaller coach allows us to reach quieter viewpoints and mountain lanes that larger buses cannot access, offering a more relaxed and immersive experience—ideal for photographers and nature lovers.
Your day begins at Glendalough, where we include an extended visit with a 30-minute guided introduction to the monastic site followed by 90 minutes of free time. Enjoy a gentle walk between the Upper and Lower Lakes, explore the ancient ruins, or simply take in the peaceful atmosphere of this remarkable glacial valley.
We then continue to the nearby village of Laragh for a relaxed pub lunch (own cost), where you can enjoy classic Irish dishes and warm local hospitality.
After lunch, the tour climbs higher into the Wicklow Mountains for a memorable visit to Lough Tay (Guinness Lake), one of Ireland’s most dramatic and iconic viewpoints. Here, celebrate the unique atmosphere of the lake with a complimentary toast of Glendalough Whiskey—a small tribute to the valley’s heritage.
Our journey continues across the sweeping landscape of the Sally Gap, passing rugged boglands, panoramic mountain vistas, and filming locations featured in Braveheart, P.S. I Love You, and Vikings. The return route leads us through the tranquil Glencree Valley, a peaceful and lesser-visited part of Wicklow that provides a perfect ending to your day before we make our way back to Dún Laoghaire.
This is a Wicklow-only experience created for travellers who want more time in nature, more scenic access, the best photo opportunities, and a more personal connection to Ireland’s most beautiful mountain region—perfectly timed and tailored for your shore visit.
