The Shfela is the Judaean Lowlands with its many valleys and Tels. A very biblical area with many stories from the Jewish Bible that took place here. Your tour guide is also an Israeli soldier and offers tours all over Israel. We will start the tour right outside the central bus station in Jerusalem. A private car or minivan will come and pick us up. We will first head to Tel Gezer, an ancient Tel from the Canaanite Period about 4,000 years ago. From there we will head to Tel Lachish, which is also mentioned in the Bible. Tel Lachish was conquered by both the Assyrians and the Babylonians being that it was the last Israelite stronghold to take before they could conquer Jerusalem. Next we will head to Tel Maresha, the Hellenistic city from after Alexander the Great and from the Hesmonian times. While there, we will also see Beit Guvrin, the Roman city of Tel Maresha. Beit Guvrin has the only amphitheater in Israel ever discovered. Lastly we will see the Harodeon, a magnificant fortress build by King Hared and which is also the resting place of King Hared. We will also see the tunnels that are there from the Bar Kochva Rebellion.
