Description
Explore Miyajima with a local guide through scenic shrine paths, floating torii views, lively local streets, friendly wild deer, and some of the island’s best hidden photo spots.
Meet your guide at the Miyajimaguchi Ferry Terminal on the mainland side of Hiroshima. Travel together by ferry to Miyajima Island, enjoying beautiful views of the Seto Inland Sea along the way. The ferry ride takes approximately 10 minutes and is part of the overall experience.
Upon arrival, continue to Itsukushima Shrine, one of Japan’s most important Shinto shrines and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The shrine is famous for its unique architecture built over the water and the iconic floating torii gate that appears to stand in the sea during high tide.
Your guide will explain the history and cultural importance of the shrine while you explore the wooden corridors and surrounding seaside views. Depending on the tide, the appearance of the torii gate changes, offering a different experience each time.
Next, walk through Omotesando Street, the main shopping area of Miyajima. This lively street is filled with local food stalls, souvenir shops, and traditional sweets. Try regional specialties such as grilled oysters and momiji manju (maple leaf-shaped cakes).
Wild deer freely roam the island, often walking alongside visitors, adding a unique and memorable atmosphere to the experience.
After the main highlights, enjoy a relaxed walk around the island. Depending on the schedule and group pace, visit quieter areas such as Momijidani Park or walk along the coastline for scenic views of the sea and surrounding mountains.
This part of the tour allows for photography, relaxation, and a deeper appreciation of the island’s natural beauty.
