Osaka Castle Park:
Osaka Castle Park is a vast 105.6-hectare urban park and historical site in central Osaka. The iconic Osaka Castle Main Tower (Tenshukaku), originally built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1583, stands at its heart. The current white-and-gold structure, reconstructed in 1931, houses a museum showcasing samurai artifacts. The park features historic walls, a scenic moat, the beautiful Nishinomaru Garden, and over 1,200 plum trees. It's a major spot for cherry blossom viewing in spring.
Shitennō-ji Temple:
Founded in 593 AD by Prince Shōtoku, Shitennō-ji is Japan's oldest officially established Buddhist temple. It features a classic Shitennoji-style layout with a straight north-south axis: the Central Gate, Five-Story Pagoda, Golden Hall, and Lecture Hall, all surrounded by a cloister. The striking red pillars and white walls reflect ancient Chinese architectural influences. It serves as the headquarters of the Wa Sect of Buddhism.
Tsutenkaku Tower:
A beloved landmark of Osaka's Shinsekai (New World) district. This 103-meter-tall observation tower was originally built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1956. Its design was inspired by the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. The tower offers panoramic city views and is home to the famous Billiken (the God of Happiness) statue—touching its feet is said to bring good luck. The surrounding area is famous for its retro, nostalgic atmosphere and street food like kushikatsu.
Shinsaibashi:
Osaka's most famous shopping and entertainment district. The centerpiece is the Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Arcade, a 600-meter covered street stretching for 8 blocks. Established in the Edo period, it offers a mix of luxury boutiques, trendy fashion, drugstores, traditional shops, and restaurants. It's the perfect place to shop for cosmetics, enjoy Osaka's gourmet street food (takoyaki, okonomiyaki), and experience the vibrant local culture.
