Description

Looking for something to do in Siem Reap after the temples close? Mix three cocktails yourself from Cambodian rice liqueurs infused for up to a year, in a family-run Khmer house near the Old Market.
Sombai runs a small evening cocktail class inside its rice liqueur workshop in the Wat Damnak area of Siem Reap. The workshop is rated #3 of 170 shopping experiences in Siem Reap.

You start with a short tour of the workshop: the distillery, the maceration room where fruit and spices steep for up to a year, and the upstairs room where the infusion jars sit under krama cloth. Then you sit down and taste 10 flavours of infused liqueur and 3 alcoholic jams, with local snacks alongside. Bestsellers are Lemon and Lemongrass, Passion and Spices, and Banana and Cinnamon.

After that you make three cocktails yourself, built on Sombai's own liqueurs: Sombai Blue, Pina Cambodia and Ginger Mojito. The liqueurs are made in the building you are standing in, so you taste the base spirit first and then taste what it becomes.

Groups are capped at 8, so this is hands-on rather than a demonstration. The class runs in the evening, after the temples close, which makes it a straightforward answer to what to do in Siem Reap at night besides Pub Street.

The family has been making hand-painted bottles of infused rice wine here since 2012. Every bottle is painted by hand by young Cambodian artists and the packaging is plastic-free.

Non-drinkers are welcome and can make the cocktails without drinking them.
