Description
Food tasting tour shows you Lithuanian food extends much further than potato or meat dishes. You will indulge with Lithuanian snacks & beverages, which for the most part are still loved by the locals.
NB! If you have any allergies or food intolerances, especially nut or acorn allergies, please let us know during registration or email us at hello@vilniuswithlocals.com
We begin outside of the iconic Gate of Dawn, where you’ll meet our guide with a yellow sign and learn about the roots of Lithuanian food culture and how it evolved over centuries at the crossroads of Europe. From here we continue with our first tasting stop: a selection of local cheeses enjoyed by generations and reimagined for modern tastes.
As we make our way toward the Town Hall, we introduce you to the multicultural character of Vilnius: a city where Lithuanians, Poles, Jews, Germans, and others met, traded, cooked, and shared recipes that shaped the city’s palate.
Next, we step into a cozy local pub for a truly Lithuanian experience. Here you’ll learn about mead - one of the oldest alcoholic beverages in Europe - and taste two different varieties paired with hearty snacks such as cured meats, dark rye bread, and small fish bites.
We then continue to one of the oldest surviving Lithuanian confectionery maker! You will get a small sweet surprise that connects modern craftsmanship with early 20th-century flavors and local history.
Our tour concludes in a local food store where shelves are filled with Lithuanian products. Here you’ll taste some of our iconic desserts and get inspired for delicious souvenirs to take home.
Throughout the tour, there will be a couple of surprises awaiting for you, but shhh..let’s keep it a tasty secret :) Join us as we celebrate the flavors of Lithuania, where every bite tells a story and every flavor is a journey into the heart of tradition inspired modern Lithuanian cuisine.
