Description

VIsit Teotitlán del Valle (Village) witness the ancestral art of making beeswax and discover the magic of Oaxacan cacao in this hands-on sensory workshop.
Immerse yourself in the heart of Oaxaca with “The Living Cacao Ritual”, a cultural
experience that blends history, flavor, and tradition.
We begin with a visit to the village of Teotitlán del Valle, to the home of Mrs. Liliana
Ruiz, where you’ll witness the ancestral art of making beeswax candles by hand.
Afterward, you’ll join a cacao ceremony guided by the artisans of Teófila, learning
about the symbolic and spiritual meaning of cacao in Zapotec and Mayan
worldviews.

During the ritual, seven participants will have the opportunity to grind and prepare the cacao in front of the group, sharing an ancestral experience that everyone can feel, smell, and taste.

Toast the cacao on a clay comal, releasing its ancient aroma. Grind it on a metate, the sacred stone where the essence of chocolate was born. Prepare the artisanal drink, just as the ancient Oaxacan peoples did.

Conclude the experience with a tasting of hot chocolate and pan de yema, accompanied by a traditional Oaxacan dance (a symbol of celebration and gratitude) and a traditional appetizer.
