Begin your day with an early pickup in Oaxaca City. After a 25-minute drive, arrive at the trailhead and begin your ascent at approximately 1,550 meters (5,085 ft) above sea level. Over the course of this 8.5 km (5.3 mi) hike, gain around 530 meters (1,740 ft) in elevation, making this a moderately challenging experience best suited for active travelers.

Unlike Oaxaca’s famous pine and oak forests, this route showcases a fascinating ecological transition from semi-arid landscapes dotted with wild agaves and hardy native vegetation into a unique woodland dominated by medium-sized mesa oak trees. Along the way, your guide will share insights into the region’s geology, where layers of limestone, green cantera stone, and ancient rock formations reveal the story of Oaxaca’s natural history.

Nature lovers will enjoy the opportunity to, maybe spot and listen for local birdlife, including the distinctive West Mexican Chachalaca, Canyon Wren, and other native species that inhabit these rugged hillsides.

As you gain elevation, the scenery becomes increasingly spectacular. At the summit, take time to appreciate sweeping views of the Tlacolula Valley, Oaxaca City, and the surrounding mountain ranges. After enjoying the summit and taking photos, descend the trail and continue by vehicle to a traditional Oaxacan restaurant, where you can relax and enjoy a well-deserved meal (food not included unless specified in your booking option).

Following lunch, return to Oaxaca City, arriving in the afternoon.
