Begin your adventure by meeting your friendly local guide at or near your Queenstown accommodation or central Cromwell. Travel in style in a premium Mercedes van designed for touring with only 16 seats onboard.
As you depart Queenstown, the first leg of your journey takes you through the Central Otago wine regions of Gibbston and Cromwell. Cross the dramatic Lindis Pass before making a brief stop in Omarama for refreshments and an opportunity to purchase lunch (highly recommended for those planning to hike, Heli Hike, or join the Glacier Explorers experience).
The scenery transforms as you enter Mackenzie Country. Your guide will entertain you with stories and interesting facts as you trace the edge of the Southern Alps. Along the way, pass a network of lakes and canals near Twizel, renowned for its fishing of fresh Mt Cook Alpine salmon. Once you veer off the main road, follow the bright blue waters of Lake Pukaki before arriving at Mt Cook Village.
Arrive at approximately 12 p.m., and enjoy around 3.5 hours to explore at your leisure. Enjoy a hike on one of the local tracks (self-guided), join a remarkable scenic ski plane or helicopter flight, take a boat trip on the Tasman Glacier Lake with Glacier Explorers (seasonal), or explore Mt Cook Village. Visit The Sir Edmund Hillary Centre (included for all Altitude Tours guests) and/or enjoy lunch at a local cafe.
At approximately 3:30pm, rejoin your guide and van to start the return journey to Queenstown. Sit back, relax, and take in the views. This day tour spans approximately 12 hours, and the smaller vehicles and attentive guide ensure your comfort and entertainment throughout the journey.

- Please be aware this is a full-day tour lasting up to 12 hours
- Although food is not included, there are stops along the way where you can purchase food, depending on how you want to spend your free time in Mt Cook Village.
- Mt Cook Village is an alpine environment, and those intending to get outdoors should come prepared with warm layers, a waterproof jacket and sensible walking shoes (preferably waterproof) regardless of season.
- The Hooker Valley Trek is a DOC (Department of Conservation) hiking trail, and we recommend only those with medium fitness complete the entire trail (weather pending). We have a strict departure time from Mt Cook Village and all hikers must return by that time.
