Uganda: 3-Day Kibale National Park Chimpanzee Safari

Embark on a 3-day safari to Kibale National Park from Kampala. Trek through the forest to see chimpanzees, explore the Bigodi Wetlands, and experience local culture.
Day 1: Kampala/Entebbe to Kibale National Park

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe at 7:00 AM for the scenic drive to Kibale National Park. The journey takes approximately 5 hours, passing through lush countryside, tea plantations, forests, and the beautiful backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. Stop in Fort Portal for lunch before proceeding to your lodge near the park.

In the afternoon, embark on a guided nature walk at Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, located on the edge of Kibale Forest. This swamp is home to numerous primates, including the black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. Bird lovers can spot over 138 bird species, including the Great Blue Turaco and the rare Papyrus Gonolek. Other wildlife such as sitatungas, bushbucks, and mongooses can also be seen.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Community Tour

After an early breakfast, transfer to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre by 7:00 AM for a briefing before heading into Kibale Forest for chimpanzee trekking. The trek lasts 3-5 hours, depending on the chimps' movement. Along the way, you may spot other primates like red colobus, blue, and vervet monkeys. When you find the chimpanzees, spend one hour observing their behaviors, from feeding to social interactions. Their pant-hoots, tree slapping, and antics make for a thrilling experience.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, visit the Bigodi community to experience local life. Engage in coffee processing, banana gin brewing, and watch artisans craft baskets and beads. A local healer will introduce you to medicinal plants.

After this cultural encounter, return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Return to Entebbe/Kampala

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before checking out of the lodge. Your guide will drive you back to Kampala or Entebbe, with lunch en route. Expect to arrive in the afternoon, and your driver will drop you off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your 3-day safari.
