You begin your desert journey with a visit to a local, family-run camel farm deep in the desert, far from tourist routes. Here you’ll see large herds of camels, including female camels and young camel calves, and learn how camel milk is traditionally produced and used in Bedouin daily life. You’ll also have the rare chance to see black camels, a striking and uncommon sight. Meet the local family, hear their stories, and experience an authentic introduction to desert life shaped by generations of knowledge.

From the camel farm, continue to Wadi Dawkah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its naturally growing frankincense trees. Enjoy a gentle walk of around 15 minutes among the trees while learning about the ancient frankincense trade that once connected Oman with Arabia, Africa, and the Mediterranean world.

Next, pass through Thumrait, where you’ll experience true Omani hospitality with traditional Arabic coffee and dates, a welcoming ritual deeply rooted in local culture.
The journey then leads to Ubar, the legendary “Lost City” of the desert, where you can walk around the archaeological site and learn about its role as a vital stop on ancient caravan routes that crossed the Empty Quarter. Exterior view only.

From Ubar, the journey goes far beyond the usual desert routes as you travel deep into the Empty Quarter toward the Hashman Dunes, a dune system completely different from the more common sandy deserts. These dunes are much deeper, larger, and more dramatic, formed over centuries and left entirely untouched by development. Very few visitors ever reach this remote area, making it one of the rarest desert experiences in Oman. With no settlements, no infrastructure, and no mobile signal, the landscape feels raw and timeless. Thanks to expert 4×4 driving and careful planning, this extraordinary and little-known part of the desert can be explored within a single day. Travel approximately 50 kilometers through untouched desert.

Climb the dunes and take in the vast silence before enjoying a breathtaking sunset, as the sands glow in shades of gold and red. After sunset, begin the return journey, carrying unforgettable memories of one of Oman’s rarest and most untouched desert experiences, before arriving back at your hotel.

On the way back, we stop in Thumrait, where the desert journey culminates in a truly memorable experience: succulent camel meat, grilled over open flames and bursting with rich, smoky flavor.
