Continue into the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, home to iconic Andean camelids such as llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos. Stop briefly in Patahuasi, perfect for sipping a warm coca tea.
Ascend to the highest point of the trip: the Patapampa Pass (4,900 m / 16,000 ft), where you can admire the active Sabancaya volcano. Arrive in Chivay, and then continue to Coporaque for a traditional lunch with a local family.
In the afternoon, choose between two activities: a 45-minute hike along scenic paths with views of pre-Inca terraces, ending at the Sallihua hot springs, or a visit to the San Antonio Archaeological Zone, featuring pre-Columbian ruins and ancient tombs.
End the day with a typical dinner and overnight stay in a local family home, enjoying an authentic community based experience.
