Description
Discover the beauty of Issyk Kul Lake and Altyn Arashan on a 4-day tour from Bishkek. Explore the ancient Burana Tower, hike through Skazka Canyon, and relax in natural hot springs.
Day 1: Bishkek – Burana Tower – Boom Gorge – Bokonbayevo
Begin your journey with a visit to the ancient Burana Tower, where you can explore the minaret, mausoleums, and an open-air museum featuring petroglyphs and balbals. Enjoy views of the Chui Valley before traveling along the Chu River through Boom Gorge. Stop for traditional tea and snacks at a local spot.
Continue to Bokonbayevo to watch an eagle hunting demonstration with a local berkutchi, try your hand at archery, and take photos with a golden eagle. Spend the night in a yurt camp on the shore of Issyk-Kul Lake, including dinner.
Day 2: Bokonbayevo – Skazka Canyon – Barskoon – Jeti-Oguz – Karakol
Hike through the red sandstone formations of Skazka (Fairy Tale) Canyon, resembling castles and mythical creatures. Next, visit the cascades of the Barskoon waterfalls set among alpine spruce forests.
Continue to Jeti-Oguz Canyon to view the iconic Seven Bulls and Broken Heart rock formations. Opt for a 3–4 hour horseback ride to Kok-Jayik Valley. End the day by soaking in natural thermal hot springs. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and an overnight stay in a 3-star hotel in Karakol.
Day 3: Karakol – Altyn-Arashan – Karakol
Take a 2.5-hour mountain drive to the Altyn-Arashan Alpine Valley in a Russian 4x4 vehicle. Hike through alpine trails surrounding the valley and relax in natural thermal hot springs. Drive back to Karakol for the evening.
Day 4: Karakol – Semenov/Grigoriev Gorges – Cholpon-Ata – Bishkek
Begin the day with a Karakol city tour, visiting the wooden Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, the Dungan Mosque, and Bugu Bazaar. Drive through the mountain passes of Semenov and Grigoriev Gorges, sample local cuisine in a yurt, or opt for a horse ride through the spruce forests.
Continue to Cholpon-Ata for a boat cruise on Issyk-Kul Lake, visit the open-air Petroglyphs site, and explore the Ruh Ordo Cultural Complex. Return to Bishkek in the evening with a hotel drop-off.
