Description

Enter the Tambopata National Reserve by river and forest trail, reach Sandoval Lake by rowing boat, and spend one night inside the reserve with afternoon, nighttime, and sunrise wildlife activities.
Begin your Amazon experience in Puerto Maldonado, where you will be picked up from the airport or bus station according to your arrival time. Before heading into the forest, leave larger luggage at the designated storage point and take only what you need for the overnight stay.

From the city, travel by motorized boat along the Madre de Dios River toward the Tambopata National Reserve. After entering the protected area, continue on foot along an approximately 5-kilometer trail through the rainforest. The walk is generally level and allows you to observe the vegetation and wildlife along the route. Depending on natural conditions, you may see monkeys, birds, insects, and other forest species.

Upon reaching the Sandoval Lake area, continue by a traditional wooden rowing boat through the channels leading toward the lake. The final section of the route offers a different perspective of the forest, with palms and vegetation surrounding the waterways.

After arriving at the lodge, settle into your private room and have lunch. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the lake by boat and looking for wildlife along its shores. With favorable conditions, you may have opportunities to see giant river otters, hoatzins, squirrel monkeys, birds, and other species that inhabit the lake and surrounding forest. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed and depend on natural conditions.

As daylight fades, return for dinner before heading out again for a nighttime boat excursion. Using lights to scan the water, the guide will look for caimans and other nocturnal activity along the lake. The experience focuses on observing the animals in their natural environment while moving quietly through the waterways.

Spend the night at the lodge inside the reserve.

The following morning begins with an early boat excursion on Sandoval Lake. The quieter conditions around sunrise offer opportunities to observe birds and other wildlife as the forest becomes active. Depending on the conditions, you may also have another chance to see giant river otters or monkeys around the lake.

Return to the lodge for breakfast before preparing for the journey back. Walk approximately 5 kilometers through the forest to reach the river, then board the motorized boat for the return trip to Puerto Maldonado.

Upon arrival in the city, continue to the airport or bus station according to your onward travel plans. The return is normally scheduled around midday, allowing passengers with afternoon departures to continue their journey.
