Description

Experience an authentic ceramic workshop in the village of Squillace. Discover the ancient technique of sgraffito and create a unique plate with your own hands, guided by a local master ceramist.
Delve into the heart of Squillace's artisan tradition with a workshop dedicated to ceramics and the ancient decorative technique of sgraffito, used in the area between the 15th and 17th centuries.
The experience takes place at the DECO'Art Atelier, where you will be welcomed by Master Ceramist Concetta Gallo. The workshop will begin with an introduction to the local pottery tradition and an explanation of the slip and sgraffito techniques, to understand their characteristics, tools, and main processing stages.
You will then receive a ceramic plate that has already been slip-coated, which will become the basis of your creation. Under the guide's direction, you will create the design on the surface of the plate and then move on to the sgraffito, personally engraving the decoration and experimenting with a technique linked to the artisanal history of Squillace.
No previous experience is required: you will be guided through the different stages of the work and will be able to experience the creative process of ceramics firsthand.
At the end of the workshop, you will sign your work, making it a personal and unique souvenir of the experience. The plate will remain at the atelier for subsequent firing in the kiln and, once the process is complete, it will be delivered according to the agreed terms.
