Deep inside the base of Rincón de la Vieja volcano, a hidden canyon holds one of Guanacaste's best-kept secrets: La Leona Waterfall. Surrounded by turquoise natural pools and carved canyon walls shaped by centuries of volcanic water flow, this is a place that cannot be reached by trail — only by walking through the river itself.
This is not a conventional hike. From the moment you enter the water, you'll wade through cool volcanic currents, move between towering canyon walls, and stop at natural pools along the way to cool off before reaching the main waterfall. There are no constructed steps, no platforms, and no tourist infrastructure — just the canyon, the water, and your group.
The experience is intermediate in difficulty and led by a certified local guide, fully bilingual in Spanish and English, who knows every corner of the canyon. With a maximum of 30 guests per tour, the experience stays personal, safe, and immersive from start to finish.

The tour involves wading through river water up to waist height in some sections.
Water shoes or sandals with secure straps are required — flip flops are not suitable.
The meeting point is located in Curubande, approximately 20 minutes from Liberia city center by car or taxi. Transportation is not included.
Children are welcome.

Look for the La Leona Waterfall sign at the trailhead parking area in Curubandé. The guide will be waiting at the entrance. Exact GPS coordinates are sent via WhatsApp after booking confirmation. The meeting point is approximately 20 minutes from Liberia city center by car or taxi.
