Pick up (7.30 a.m)from Colombo with a guided cruise along the enchanting Madu River, led by a local cinnamon farmer. Glide through mangrove tunnels, spot exotic birdlife, and visit a family-run cinnamon island where you’ll learn age-old peeling techniques and sip freshly brewed cinnamon tea. Unique stops include a floating fish spa and a hidden island shrine, offering glimpses into village life and spiritual traditions.
After a riverside home-cooked lunch at a riverside home stay, freshly caught lagoon fish, and coconut sambol.
Short storytelling session with the host family about life along the river and mangrove conservation.
Drive 30 minutes to the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery. Here, you’ll join a “Turtle Guardian” mini workshop — preparing sand nests, learning about conservation challenges, and meeting hatchlings up close. Nearby, visit a crafts village where women artisans transform recycled materials into eco-friendly souvenirs.
Return to Colombo along the scenic coastal road, with the option to pause for a sunset at Mount Lavinia Beach.
