Description
On this tour, you’ll witness the story of time itself revealed in the layers of rock: folded, fractured, and sculpted over millions of years in the cliffs and stalactite-studded caves of Cheddar Gorge
Leaving Bath behind, you’ll begin your day with a scenic drive through the Mendip Hills, the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. These limestone hills create a breath-taking landscape of dramatic gorges towering over the Somerset Levels.
Just as you think the views can’t get any more jaw-dropping, you’ll arrive at Cheddar Gorge, one of Britain’s most stunning natural wonders. Stand in awe at the scale of this vast limestone chasm carved by ancient waters and witness nature’s creation in all its glory.
You’ll have some free time here to explore the Gorge as much as you want. You can choose to descend into the caves hiding stalactites, stalagmites and crystal-clear pools. Venture on a clifftop walk, climb 274 steps of Jacob’s Ladder and a further 48 steps of the Lookout Tower where you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views stretching across the Mendips and beyond. Or, if you’re feeling energetic, do it all.
After all that exploring, you’ll head to Glastonbury for lunch and to enjoy the town’s charm. Here, myth meets history, as Arthurian legends link this place to the Isle of Avalon. If you’re a fan of King Arthur, embark on a quest to find the Chalice Well, soak up the history of Glastonbury Abbey - the legendary burial place of King Arthur - and walk to the Glastonbury Tor.
Next, you’ll visit Wells, England’s smallest city, steeped in beauty and history. Feel like you’ve travelled back in time as you wander through the medieval cobbled streets of Vicars’ Close, gaze in awe at the soaring arches of Wells Cathedral, and find tranquility at the Bishop’s Palace and gardens.
After a day spent uncovering both manmade and natural wonders carved in stone, tracing the legends of King Arthur and taking in epic scenery, you’ll journey to Bath with unforgettable memories.
You return to Bath at approximately 6.00pm.
