Explore the dramatic western shore of San Juan Island on a guided half-day sea kayaking adventure designed for nature lovers and first-time paddlers alike. After check-in in downtown Friday Harbor, you’ll meet your guide for a safety orientation and get fitted with high-quality gear before heading to the launch area. Then it’s time to paddle along a coastline known for rugged cliffs, quiet coves, and some of the best whale-watching waters in the region.
This small-group tour keeps the experience personal and low-impact: you’ll have plenty of time to ask questions, refine your paddling technique, and learn about local wildlife, shoreline ecology, and island history from a trained kayak guide and naturalist. Your stable fiberglass tandem sea kayak makes the journey comfortable and efficient in dynamic coastal conditions, while dry bags and waterproof layers help you stay prepared for changing weather.
No previous kayaking experience is required. With luck and the right timing, you may spot wildlife such as seabirds, harbor seals, and even whales in the distance—always observed respectfully and at safe distances. By the end of the tour, you’ll return with new skills, fresh ocean air in your lungs, and an unforgettable perspective on San Juan Island’s west side.

If you are arriving by Wa State Ferry, we advise all guests to select a ferry sailing that arrives as early as possible to San Juan Island.
Missed tours due to ferry delays or missed ferries are treated as same-day cancellations. No Refund and No Reschedule.

Check-In: Arrive for check-in at our brick-and-mortar office in downtown Friday Harbor, 260 Spring St, 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
