Explore Fenghuang Ancient Town beside the Tuo River in western Hunan, a historic border settlement known for wooden stilt houses, stone lanes, city gates, bridges, temples, and riverside night scenery. The ancient-town streets are free to enter; tickets are required only for the selected heritage attractions or river cruise.

Begin along the Tuo River, the center of life in Fenghuang. See the Huilongge stilt-house district built along the riverbank, cross the stepping stones near North Gate, and walk toward Hongqiao Wind and Rain Bridge. Continue beside the water toward Wanming Pagoda, Snow Bridge, old docks, and viewpoints overlooking the river.

Inside the lanes, explore Dongzheng Street, Nanbian Street, traditional houses, craft shops, and historic courtyards. The Nine-Site Heritage Pass provides access to participating cultural attractions such as the former residences of Shen Congwen and Xiong Xiling, the Yang Family Ancestral Hall, Wanshou Palace, Chongde Hall, and other included heritage sites designated by the attraction.

Choose a Daytime Tuo River cruise to see the stilt houses, bridges, and old waterfront from a traditional-style sightseeing boat. The daytime cruise can be booked as part of the Nine-Site Heritage Pass.

For a different atmosphere, select the standalone Tuo River Night Cruise. After dark, lights illuminate the riverside buildings, bridges, and pagodas, creating reflections across the water. The night-cruise ticket does not include the heritage-site pass.

Private-transfer options are available from central Zhangjiajie.

The One-Day Day Cruise & Private Transfer option starts with private pickup in central Zhangjiajie at 9:00. Arrive at the North Visitor Center at approximately 13:00, use the official scenic shuttle to reach the old town, and explore the riverside streets and nighttime cruise. Stay for the illuminated evening scenery, then return to the North Visitor Center. The private vehicle departs for Zhangjiajie at 19:30, with arrival expected at approximately 23:00.

The Two-Day Heritage Pass & Private Transfer option starts at 9:00 on Day 1 and arrives at the North Visitor Center at approximately 12:00. Use the official shuttle to enter the old town, visit the included heritage sites, take the cruise, and enjoy the evening scenery. Arrange your own overnight accommodation. On Day 2, explore the quieter riverside streets in the morning, then meet the driver at the North Visitor Center for the 13:00 return to Zhangjiajie.

Private vehicles cannot enter the ancient-town core. All transfer passengers are dropped off and collected at the North Visitor Center. The official shuttle between the visitor center and the riverside core is not included.

Bring the original passport or identity document used for booking. The old town contains uneven stone streets, steps, bridges, and riverside surfaces that may become slippery. Wear non-slip shoes and allow extra time when traveling with limited mobility.
