Begin your day with a convenient pickup directly from your hotel or accommodation in Sofia. After a scenic transfer of approximately 30 minutes, arrive in the foothills of Vitosha Mountain, where your experienced, licensed mountain guide will introduce you to the route, safety rules, and equipment. Snowshoes, trekking poles, and traction spikes are provided if needed, ensuring comfort and stability on snowy terrain.

Follow a beautiful round-trip trail through the heart of Vitosha National Park, the oldest national park in Bulgaria and one of the oldest in the Balkans. Walk through snow-covered forests and open alpine areas, and discover the unique winter landscape of the mountain while learning about its natural history, flora, and fauna.

One of the highlights of the route is the protected reserve “Torfeno Branishte”, a rare peat bog ecosystem that plays an important role in preserving biodiversity and regulating water resources in the region. Along the way, your guide will also explain the fascinating moreni (glacial moraine) formations, a natural phenomenon shaped by ancient glaciers and characteristic of Vitosha Mountain.

The trail offers spectacular panoramic views over Sofia and the surrounding plains, especially on clear winter days. You may also pass near a small local ski area, giving you a glimpse of winter sports life on the mountain. The total hiking time is approximately 2 hours, at a relaxed pace, suitable for travelers with a normal level of physical fitness.

Midway through the hike, reach a cozy mountain hut, where you can warm up, enjoy lunch, and have hot drinks in a traditional alpine atmosphere. This is a perfect moment to relax, socialize, and enjoy the authentic mountain hospitality.

After the break, follow a different or the same scenic route back to the starting point, completing a pleasant circular hike before returning to Sofia.

Optionally, depending on weather and group preferences, the tour may include a visit to Dragalevtsi Monastery, an important historical site connected to the Second Bulgarian Kingdom and the Bulgarian National Revival period, adding a cultural touch to your winter adventure.
