The journey takes approximately 30 minutes to the Galápagos National Park checkpoint, and then another 20 minutes to the rest stop, where the hike begins.

The hike to the fumaroles is 3 km there and 3 km back, lasting approximately 2 hours. The trail begins with a descent down a staircase that leads to the edge of the Sierra Negra Volcano caldera, one of the largest and most active craters in the world.
