Most Komodo day trips show you the park. This one lets you give something back to it, and you do it with your own hands.

On a private afternoon trip from Labuan Bajo, you visit a community-run sea turtle hatchery in the Rinca area of Komodo National Park, release two baby turtles per person into the sea, and plant a coral fragment on a reef with a marine guide beside you. Everything is private: your car, your wooden boat, your guide and your pace. All park and conservation fees are already in the price, so there is nothing to pay on site.

THE TURTLE HATCHERY
Your guide takes you through the whole conservation process. Turtle eggs are moved from nesting beaches where they are at risk from poachers, predators and rising seas, and placed in a protected semi-natural hatchery. After hatching, the babies are cared for in nursery pools until they are strong enough for the ocean. You see each stage, and the local team explains why it matters.

THE RELEASE
Each guest receives two baby turtles to release on the beach. You set them on the sand, watch them find the water and swim out to sea for the first time. Want to release more? Add extra turtles when you book. The camera is on you the whole time.

CORAL PLANTING
On the reef nearby, your marine guide shows you how coral is grown and attached to a frame. You plant your own fragment, with the guide in the water beside you, and the underwater camera records it. The coral stays on the reef and keeps growing after you leave.

YOUR CERTIFICATE, PHOTOS AND CINEMATIC VIDEO
After the trip you receive an e-certificate for your turtle release and coral planting, plus the full set of photos and a cinematic video of your day: the drive out, the hatchery, your turtles reaching the sea, and your coral planting filmed underwater.

HOW THE AFTERNOON RUNS
Pickup at 2:00 PM from your hotel or the airport in Labuan Bajo in a private car. A scenic drive to a village pier on the coast, then a private wooden boat across to the island. Hatchery visit, turtle release and coral planting, with time to swim and snorkel. Snacks, fresh fruit and drinking water on board. Return by boat and car to your hotel in the evening.

MAKE IT A FULL DAY (OPTIONAL ADD-ONS)
- Komodo dragon trek: walk with a park ranger in the Rinca area to see Komodo dragons in the wild, before the hatchery.
- Sunset at Kalong Island: stay out on the boat to watch thousands of flying foxes leave the mangroves at dusk, then sail home under the first stars.

Everything on this trip is run by local people from the Komodo region, and part of your payment supports the community conservation project.

Hatchling numbers depend on natural hatching cycles. If none are ready on your date, we contact you before the trip. Non-swimmers can plant coral from the shallows with the guide.
