Day 1: Descending Into the Volcanic Rift
Your journey begins with an early morning transit from Arequipa, climbing through the high Andes to reach the canyon rim just as the sun rises. We make our first stop at the dramatic cliffside edge of Cruz del Condor. Here, you will stand above the immense abyss to witness giant wild Andean Condors utilizing the morning thermal wind currents to glide effortlessly right above your head.

Next, tighten your boots at Pampa San Miguel for the ultimate downhill challenge. You will navigate a steep, rocky path on an intense 3-hour vertical descent, dropping over 1,000 meters into the earth's crust, surrounded by colossal mountain walls. At the canyon floor, cross the suspension bridge and pause for a nourishing, slow-cooked lunch prepared with organic, native ingredients by a local family in the isolated village of San Juan de Chuccho.

In the afternoon, hike for another 2 hours along vehicle-free paths. Pass through remote indigenous farmlands, learning about traditional stone terrace agriculture that has sustained life here for centuries. As dusk falls, arrive at the sub-tropical riverbed oasis of Sangalle. Unwind by swimming in refreshing natural pools, share a communal dinner under a pristine starry sky, and sleep in a rustic eco-lodge completely disconnected from the modern world.

Day 2: The Sunrise Climb & Thermal Recovery
Rise early at 04:30 AM to tackle the toughest physical milestone of the trek: a 3-hour vertical switchback climb back to the canyon rim. Scaling the massive canyon wall in the cool, pre-dawn air allows you to beat the intense sun. Celebrate reaching the top in Cabanaconde with a hearty, well-deserved alpine breakfast.

As we journey back, pause at the Antahuilque viewpoint to admire the scale of ancient, pre-Inca agricultural engineering. Next, make a short stop at the historic village of Maca to see its surviving colonial architecture and taste refreshments made from local cactus fruit.

Before leaving the valley, treat your tired legs to a deeply relaxing 1-hour optional soak in the geothermal, mineral-rich hot springs of Chacapi. After a final lunch break in Chivay, we board our transport to cross the Patapampa Volcano Pass at a breathtaking 4,910 meters above sea level, pausing to spot wild, protected vicuñas roaming the Pampa Cañahuas plains before returning to Arequipa by 05:30 PM.
