Chuan is a freelance designer based in Shanghai who has been hosting dinner parties at home for as long as she can remember. For years the guests were local friends. Now she's opening her table to international visitors — and bringing the same warmth, curiosity, and food she's always cooked.

What makes Chuan's kitchen different is the story on the plate. Her cooking blends Guangxi, Guangdong, and Southeast Asian influences — a culinary journey that doesn't fit neatly into any one regional category and tastes unlike anything you'll find in a Shanghai restaurant. Think sour-spicy tomato noodles with Thai basil alongside slow-braised beef brisket in clear broth. Familiar comfort and unexpected flavour in the same meal.
